Building Inspector Part 2

Called the building inspector today and it went great. He was very excited about our project and was extremely helpful. Basically we have to satisfy the KY state building codes as far as insulation based on R value, wiring, plumbing, etc and have our plans signed off on by an engineer. We still have a long way to go but progress is being made again and that is lifting our spirits. We initiated contact with the architect (http://www.greenhomebuilding.com/) today via email hopefully they will email back soon because we could not find a phone number.

E-mailed the building inspector yesterday about any restrictions on building an earth bag house and am expecting a reply sometime today (hopefully). We'll see how it goes with this guy. --Aimee

Purpose

This is our attempt to prepare and educate anyone interested in building a home themselves in Mercer County KY. Over the next several months my wife and I will be documenting our experiences and pitfalls with local officials,building materials, and building plans. Our hope is that our readers find this to be an invaluable source of information and can learn from our mistakes and make their own(then come back and tell us about them). We would like to make this an A-Z guide but I am sure new regulations will be passed soon after we complete our house. So take luck in your building adventures and enjoy reading ours.
